Participation of GDY Publications during the Pi Day, 2014

GDY Publications participated in the Pi Day on 14 March 2014 as one of the educational textbooks publishers. During the occasion, samples of seven new titles published in 2014 were displayed for the first time.

Service Before Self

We started giving even before we started selling. During May 2011 we distributed educational books worth a total of TZS 2.1 Mn. to the following; Mkomazi primary school in Korogwe district, Jitengeni, Kankokoro and Uzambara primary schools in Kihurio – Same District. We also donated Additional Mathematics 1 and Civics for Secondary Schools 1 textbooks to Kihurio, Jitengeni and Kidundai Secondary schools in Same district.

Inspirations from a Humble Beginning, touching more lives with inspiring high quality books.

The first book by GDY Publication was in 2005 when a self progress book was launched by His Excellence, former president of the United Republic of Tanzania – Alhaj Ali Hassan Mwinyi – holding the book in the picture below. At the background is the founder and Executive Chairman of GDY Publications Company Ltd - Mr Gabriel Kitua. 

In 2008, efforts to publish curricula based textbooks were heightened. The first batch of primary schools text books and additional mathematics text book for the form 1 were published in 2010/11.

GDY Publications successfully delivered 120,000 textbooks purchased by the Government during its 2013/14 budget. The books were supplied to all districts in the mainland Tanzania except for Kagera and Mara. Important and relevant experience was garnered for future similar or more complex deals.

Improving Education Standards in Tanzania

We believe competence in mathematics should deserve concerted

efforts to revamp the education system in Tanzania. Being part of

nature (which is governed by natural laws), life is logical. Logic is

taught in math. We trust the math phobia is caused by peer pressure,

availability of math teachers and right books. Peer pressure can, to

an extent, be managed by teachers. Accordingly, no plan shall

succeed without having in the equation both the teachers and books.

So far, right books have received inadequate emphasis. We hope

that shall change.
